LIKING THOSE LICHENS!
1-day field seminar. Dr. Egan will have a PowerPoint presentation on general lichen biology with lots of demonstrations of various lichen growth forms, reproductive features, diversity, etc.. In the afternoon, a 1+ hour field trip to point out common species and re-group at the FRS for summary.
ADVANCED LIKING THOSE LICHENS!
More intense workshops (Sunday, Monday- April 25, 26): [Assumes basic knowledge from the first day or previous experience] This workshop concentrates on learning how to collect specimens for serious taxonomic study and work on identification of lichen species. It includes a field trip into Lance Rosier unit for actual hands on collecting. ***The Monday workshop will be much more concentrated and you don't have to commit to both days. RSVP BY APRIL 16.
SFA to Host Native Plant Conference
Come join a unique blend of naturalists, horticulturists, nurserymen, landscapers, and gardeners to hear talks ranging from green roofs to landscape design and native azaleas. Conference attendees will also have the opportunity to enjoy unique local flora from a choice of guided tours as well as educational workshops.
POSTPONED...CANOE TRIP: Exploring Fishes & Habitat along the Neches
As part of the Thicket of Diversity, All Taxa Biodiversity Inventory (ATBI), a "float" trip along the Neches River to explore types of fish and habitats will be lead by Dr. Chad Hargrave.

A Mushroom Walk will be held in the Big Thicket National Preserve (BTNP) on Saturday, November 14, 2009.
Christmas Bird Count - Turkey Creek
This count in Hardin and Tyler Counties includes the Turkey Creek and Hickory Creek Savannah Units of the Big Thicket National Preserve. Meet at the Big Thicket Visitor Center on US69 at FM420, about 7 miles north of Kountze at 6:30 AM. Sponsored by the Big Thicket National Preserve.
Christmas Bird Count - Beech Creek
This count takes places in Tyler and Jasper Counties and includes Steinhagen Lake, the Beech Creek unit of Big Thicket National Preserve and Martin Dies State Park. Meet at the Corps of Engineers Picnic Area on FM92 immediately north of the intersection with FM1746 in Town Bluff at 6:30 AM. Sponsored by the Big Thicket National Preserve.
